3 Powerful Reminders to Help You Live Outside Your Comfort Zone

3 powerful reminders to help you live outside your comfort zone | ChelseaDinen.com

“When it feels scary to jump, that is exactly when you jump. Otherwise you end up staying in the same place your whole life. And that I can’t do.”
— A Most Violent Year

I fully believe that being alive means going after the things we are most passionate about. Along the way, we may fall, we may fail, we may change our mind and decide on another path. But at least we tried and learned and found an even better way.

Yet so often, we fear the failure or the uncertainty or the opinions of others and so, instead of stepping into our power and honoring the call of our heart by pursuing it, we settle. We stay comfortable. We remain in our comfort zone.

I used to be that girl who had big-time dreams but allowed fear and the judgment of those around me to talk me out of what I truly wanted for my own life path.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t until I suddenly lost my mom in February of 2012, exactly four years ago today as I’m writing this, that I realized that life is too short to continue ignoring our intuition and that voice, that feeling deep inside, telling us to go after those crazy, exciting dreams we have.

So, I decided that no matter how scared I was, it was time to spread my wings and fly.

It wasn’t safe to quit my job.
I did it anyway.

It wasn’t safe to move cross country on my own.
I did it anyway.

It wasn’t safe to start my own business.
I did it anyway.

And, guess what — the more I stepped outside of my comfort zone, the more I learned how capable I really was. My confidence grew stronger. My independence grew stronger. My happiness grew stronger.

All because I believed in myself and my dreams enough to take the huge leap of faith.

Because I knew in my heart that if I wasn’t trying, I wasn’t living.

And here are three powerful reminders to help you live outside your comfort zone:

1. We were not designed to be fearless or flawless.

Remember that. We were designed uniquely. Given our very own, divinely-inspired gifts, talents, values, and life purpose. And it is our responsibility as spiritual beings to go out there and LIVE OUR PURPOSE — failures, detours, heartbreaks, hurdles and all.

[Tweet “We were not designed to be fearless or flawless.”]

2. What matters is that we are making conscious, forward movement toward our dreams and life goals. That we are trying. That we have faith and believe, no matter how hard it can be at times, that when we leap, the net WILL appear.

3. We don’t have to have it entirely figured out or execute our dreams perfectly on the first try, or even the second or third…

We must decide to put our stagnant, content, comfortable, and safe life behind us in order to step out into our courage and bravery toward the path of our dreams.

If you’re not trying, you’re not living.

Get outside your comfort zone. LIVE outside your comfort zone.

Because living, truly living, means you’re getting out there and living fully, consciously, and on purpose. You’re trying and failing and getting back up again. Staying in your comfort zone, in your safe space, means you’re not learning and growing and expanding. And what kind of life is that?

Go big.

Fail big.

Live big.

What ever it is that you do and dream of most, do it on a scale so large that you’ll never, ever look back and wonder, ‘what if?’

If you’ve been wanting to travel on your own, stop putting it off. Book that solo trip.

If you’ve been wanting to move cross country, stop putting it off. Hire those movers.

If you’ve been wanting to quit your job and start your own business, stop putting it off. March into your boss’s office and become your own boss.

And just in case you need one more reason to live outside your comfort zone:

4. Life is too short not to.
