Nothing beats London at Christmastime. In this post, I’ll be sharing the top things to do for Christmas in London, whether you’re a local or just visiting! From festive displays to holiday gift shopping, day trips and so much more, I’ve got you covered. I’ve spent several Christmases in London as I lived there for three out of the last four years and my love for that city during the holidays only continues to grow.

As the festive season approaches, London transforms into a winter wonderland, adorned with dazzling lights, festive decorations, and an exciting sense of holiday cheer. If you’re planning to spend Christmas in London, here is a curated list of the top things to do, ensuring you make the most of this special time.

1. Regent Street Christmas Lights

Kickstart your Christmas adventure by witnessing the grand illumination of the Regent Street Christmas Lights. The iconic street comes alive with thousands of sparkling lights, creating a mesmerising display that sets the perfect tone for the holiday season.

Better yet, book tickets for an open-top bus tour of London’s most famous sights all decked out for Christmas.

Whilst you’re here, if you’re lucky and go early, you may be able to grab a table for coffee at Ralph’s. There is almost always a queue though so do be prepared to wait.

Experience Christmas in style at Annabel’s, the legendary private members’ club in Mayfair. Known for its opulent decor and exclusive events, Annabel’s always has one of the best displays at Christmastime. Go just as it’s getting dark to see the building all lit up!

5. Fortnum and Mason

Delight in the quintessential British Christmas experience at Fortnum and Mason, an iconic department store. Start across the street where you’ll be able to see the entire facade decorated as an advent calendar. Then, venture inside to explore the beautifully decorated halls, shop for luxurious hampers and unique gifts or stop for an afternoon tea at their renowned Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon.

*Similar to Fortnum and Mason, you can check out other department store display such as Selfridge’s window displays, the interior of Liberty and the lights across all of Harrod’s.

Escape the hustle and bustle of London for a day trip to Bath and immerse yourself in the historic charm and festive spirit of this UNESCO World Heritage city. Explore the renowned Roman Baths, stroll through the picturesque Bath Abbey Square, indulge in a relaxing spa experience, and don’t miss the stunning architecture of the Royal Crescent. Bath offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and festive cheer.

The train journey takes approximately 90 minutes from London and it’s a beautiful ride through the rolling hills of the English countryside. I used to live in Bath and it remains one of my favourite places in the whole world so I always recommend a day trip (or longer!) when visiting London.
